Changes
for National
Association
After
months of analysis and research and
following the recommendation of the
Marketing Committee, the board of
directors approved Printing Industries
of America as the new name for PIA/GATF.
It also adopted a new logo, pictured
below, along with the tag line "Advancing
Graphic Communications." In
the coming weeks and months, look
for changes in support of the new
identity, including changes to the
website and the implementation of
style guidelines.

More "Don't"
In
last week's eNews, we shared
a few "don'ts" to
keep in mind when considering
ways to cut back on expenses.
Here is one more "don't" from
PGAMA member and consultant
Bob Moffit of RHM Marketing
Group--Don't
slow down.
What
does that mean? Bob
explains that even
though business
is
getting
a little rough, weaker
competitors
won't make it, leaving
printers with fundamentally
sound sales systems to pick up the slack. He says firms
should make
it tough on the competition by not letting up, and
by getting even tougher over the holidays. While some
businesses are lulled into seasonal complacency and
emotional sliding, remember these facts:
*80% of sales are made by sales folks who sell by
referral and by appointment. BUT, only 20% of sales
people do that. Most sales folks cold call or canvass.
*80% of sales are made after the 5th call
*48% of sales folk call only once
*25% call twice, then give up
*12% make three calls, and that's all
*10% keep on calling in creative ways.
It is
this last 10% who make 80% of the sales.
Multi-Channel
Marketing Works
Have you
heard
the term
"cross
media campaign"
and dismissed
it as just
another
catch phrase
of the
industry
without
real meaning?
If so,
think again.
The 2008
Abacus
Trend Report
shows that
multi-channel
campaigns
(using
print and
the Internet)
deliver
69% of
all retail
revenue,
and that
consumers
buy 15%
MORE from
multi-channel
marketers
than ones
who rely
on just
one medium.

Green: Self-Erasing
Paper
Xerox has
announced the development of a self-erasing
paper. The paper is coated with a chemical
that reacts to a specific wavelength
of light. After printing, the paper erases
itself within 24 hours and is ready to
be used again. The paper can be used
repeatedly. Don’t expect to see
the paper for sale
quite yet, though. It’s still
in the experimental stage with commercialization
down the road. A special printer
will need to be developed that uses the
right type of light, and it would be
a costly undertaking for businesses to
convert to a new style of printer. But
considering that 50 percent of documents
are discarded within a day of being printed,
the development could be a step in the
right direction, so stay tuned!
Retirement
Plan Check-Ups
No matter the type of retirement
plan you offer, it's important to
conduct a periodic review to
keep your plan thriving. The IRS
offers "Check-Ups" for
IRA's, SEP's, 401(k)'s and 403(b)
plans to help business owners gain
a better understanding of their plan
requirements, and the need to properly
operate them. For further
information, go to the IRS
Retirement Plan Community.
Food
Drive Underway
Again
this year,
PGAMA members are encouraged
to participate in a Holiday

go to the Manna Food Bank and
the Maryland Food Bank to be
distributed to people of need
in our area. Please consider
supporting this worthwhile
effort. All you need to do
is provide space for a food
collection carton. Start collecting
donations now. Pick-up of cartons
will begin on Monday, December
20th. If you participated last
year you will be contacted. If
this is your first time getting
involved, call Kyle Walker
for more info, 800-775-9528.
