New Green Toolkit

Printing Industries of America has developed yet another great benefit for members: the Green Marketing Toolkit, which will be available for download this month (approximately June 26) from www.printing.org. The kit will contain guidance on how printers can evaluate themselves with respect to sustainable green practices, guidance on how to position themselves relative to their competition, templates for marketing tools, and background information on the legal aspects of making environmental claims. A companion webinar, Cashing in on Sustainability, was just announced and is scheduled for broadcast on Tuesday June 30 to explore green marketing practices and review the content of the tool kit.

Clarification on OSHA 'Hit List'

Last week we announced the release of OSHA's 2009 list of companies targeted as High Hazard Workplaces. This week we want to clarify that companies on the list are in states with federally monitored OSHA compliance. Maryland and Virginia are State Plan States, which means they operate their own OSHA programs to monitor and track high hazard industries and facilities. Therefore, no Maryland or Virginia companies will appear on the list mentioned last week, and Printing Industries of America will not have access to whether or not a company in either state is likely to be inspected. Just because a company is not on the Federal list does not mean they are not tracked and could possibly be targeted by their state. Members in Pennsylvania and D.C. could be listed on the Federal list, but all companies on the list should have received a letter from OSHA advising them of their status. [Thanks to PGAMA member Catherine Cretu of Anaconda Press for helping to uncover this important difference.]

Members Applaud Rebuttal of Direct Mail Prediction

Several members commented on last week's article about the demise of direct mail, as predicted by a Virginia consulting firm (Borrell Associates). The members were pleased to see PGAMA's publication of a counter argument to the prediction. One wrote "...it should be noted that the author of this completely unfounded “prediction” is putting this misinformation out there in the hopes of scaring off our clients. Borrell Associates is a marketing consulting firm that specializes in local internet advertising." The member went on to add, "Believe me, I’m not up nights worrying about his spam supplanting my targeted direct mail anytime soon. That he was able to get so many “news” sites to reprint his prediction shows you the level of irresponsibility that pervades so many of the PR for Pay sites out there today. PGAMA is the only one to offer anything in the way of another point of view. Thank you."

Do the Logo-Motion

A simple yet effective way to gain credibility and increase recognition for your company is by using the PGAMA and Printing Industries of America logos. Advertising your membership in the organizations is a positive symbol for your business as well as for the industry, because it communicates that you are a reputable, recognized company. Use the logo on business stationery, print advertising, your website, client newsletters, exhibits, or anything else on which you would feel inclined to put your company logo. PGAMA's goal as an Association is to benefit members by enhancing their current and future profitability, and boosting your company image is one way we are pleased and proud to do so.

NEED A COPY OF THE LOGO?
