Print is tactile, industry training should be too!

It’s no secret that recruiting and retaining qualified workers is one of the top challenges that the Industry faces today.

Many companies have given up on finding experienced workers and look for candidates with a generic skill set that is compatible with printing. Once hired the companies rely on on-the-job training to bring these employees up to speed with varying levels of success. What's needed is a local source of industry specific training to provide ongoing professional development for your employees. We recognized this need and applied for a Maryland EARN grant through the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation. The goal of the grant is to create an industry specific workforce training program addressing current and future industry workforce needs.

Introduction to Graphic Communications is designed to provide those who are new to the industry or their position an understanding of how printing gets done. Course content provides context to help trainees understand where their job fits into the overall workflow of a printing plant. Digital and conventional printing technologies are compared and contrasted preparing the student to identify which process is most appropriate for printing the job at hand. Course content is designed to deliver not only the “what” but also the “how” and the “why” through demonstrations and hands-on activities. It's one thing to talk about technology in the classroom but hands-on demonstrations take learning to a new level!

Who Should Attend?

This course is geared towards any employee that would benefit from a greater understanding of the print production process, such as:

  • New Hires
  • Junior Customer Service Reps

  • Junior Designers
  • New Estimators

  • Industry Overview/Print Processes
  • How Print is Produced/Workflow

This Workforce Training Program is offered by PrintSIP, a Strategic Industry Partnership led by the Printing & Graphics Association MidAtlantic. Project funded by the State of Maryland’s EARN Maryland Grant Program, administered by the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
