Gary Jones, PIA’s Senior VP and EHS Expert, will cover, from a senior management perspective, what you need to know to keep your shop violation-free. OSHA added many new weapons to its arsenal this year and has become a much more powerful agency. With the changes in injury reporting requirements and a likely 80% increase in penalties, OSHA has entered into an agreement with the Department of Justice encouraging inspectors to look for workplace safety violations when investigating environmental incidents.
This means that safety violations can be treated as criminal cases resulting in large fines and possible prison sentences. Since the printing industry is considered a high hazard industry for amputations, OSHA has focused intently on lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and combustible dust. This presentation will review recent safety incidents and inspection activities, what inspectors look for, and provide basic tips on what to do ahead of an inspection.
